Back Then – Word and Phrase Origins Series

Back Then was a short-form video series exploring the surprising origins of words and phrases from everyday expressions like “hair of the dog” to the colourful history of the word “fuck.” Educational? Sure. But also weird, funny, and very much our own.

We designed the series in a textured collage style, layering vintage imagery, cut-out animation, and playful typography to match the oddball charm of the subject matter. It was the kind of project where we got to lean into our love of visual experimentation — and have a laugh while doing it.
